Africa is a huge continent, housing over a thousand tribes, each with its own unique culture and traditions.  So when we say ‘African Style’ it could be anything from Kente to Adire fabric.  Many traditional African clothing has cultural importance and significance attached to it.  Most traditional clothes are usually made with brightly coloured fabric; but patterns, colours and textures will vary from one region to another.

Here are just a few examples of the many fabrics which make up the clothing worn by Africans across the continent:

  • Aso oke fabric (pictured above) and Adire fabric are both made by the Yoruba tribe of Nigeria
  • Kente cloth made by the Ashanti’s of Ghana
