Gift list

Where and how to start planning your gift list

On an important occasion like a wedding, most people want to give gifts that are appreciated and put to good use. Many guests however, find it extremely difficult to decide on that perfect wedding gift. As the couple, you also do not want to receive 15 toasters, 5 kettles and 3 blenders, and in turn spend time trying to exchange them for something that you actually need! An answer to this sometimes chaotic and time consuming problem is to have a wedding gift list.

Whatever you want as a gift from your loved ones, whether it's home furnishings, bedding, electronic gadgets or kitchen wear, a gift list will be able to incorporate these things, enabling your guests to choose what to get you online, without any repetitions and set you on the right track for married life.

Questions you will need to ask your gift list provider

  1. How soon can I register?
  2. How many items can I have on the list?
  3. How do the guests buy gifts off the list?
  4. Do you charge for delivery?
  5. When will the gift list expire / close?

Department stores tend to offer comprehensive gift lists that enable you to add a wide range of gifts, from widescreen TVs to shoe horns. Alternatively, you have more specific/niche tastes or requirements and or have a favourite shop, many boutiques and small shops now offer gift lists. So do not hesitate to go into your favourite antique shop, for example, and ask if the offer a gift list, as they just might!
