Tips for choosing the perfect honeymoon for the two of you

The honeymoon is all about combining adventure and pure relaxation. After the wedding is over and the guests leave, there is nothing more a bride and groom want more than a well deserved vacation. The honeymoon should be filled with activities both you and your spouse can enjoy together.

Choosing a Destination

Deciding where to go isn't always easy. If you're truly lucky, you will both agree on a place immediately. Unfortunately, more often than not you may be conflicted when it comes to choosing the perfect place to let you hair down.

Don't let the honeymoon plans ruin the wedding. If you're having trouble agreeing on a place try to find one that encompasses both of your needs and wishes. If you want action packed and she wants lazy and relaxing, try to find one that offers both. Beach vacations are often great choices as they can offer the best of both worlds making both members happy.

Still can't decide where to go? Grab a pen and pencil and write down three to five honeymoon destinations and have your spouse do the same. It may also be helpful to include a brief list of reasons why you want to visit each place. This can help the two of you discover what draw you to each destination and where if any your vacation interests meet.

Set a Budget

While some couples are lucky enough to have their honeymoons paid for by loving family members, not everyone is that lucky. A wedding can be pricey and the honeymoon can be quite a financial burden if you're wallet is nearing empty. Setting a budget will help you rule out destinations that can land you in debt before you even say "I do." Don't assume that you can't have fun on a limited budget. You may very well be able to have a reasonably priced get away that outshines and budget breaking vacation. Also, if you're staying in a hotel/resort, you might want to go for an All Inclusive holiday, as this already include all your daily meals, unlimited drinks, use of hotel facilities and sports activities.

Check the weather

Look at the time of year you are getting married and then consult the climate/weather calendar in any suggested honeymoon locations during that time of year. The last thing you would want is to travel to your ideal honeymoon destination during monsoon or raining season. Very important.

Do your research

Most countries have their own tourist board online that gives suggestions on where to go, what to see and what you need in terms of currency exchange, visas and vaccinations. Also, it is a good idea to check the state department website to make sure the country in question doesn't have any sanctions against it, and that it is okay for tourists from your country to visit.

Advice from real brides

Finding the right destination

To ensure you receive the best level of service, always inform your honeymoon hotel, or resort, that you are celebrating your honeymoon. This should be done when you make your initial reservation. Most hotels like to recognise honeymooners so you may find a special gift in your room or may even receive a room upgrade.Happy Honeymoon!

Flight times

It's nice to choose a place with a short flight as after a very long day (African weddings seem to go on forever) you might not want an 8 hour flight.
