Master of Ceremonies

When only the best will do...
The Master of Ceremony (MC) is responsible for ensuring the various events that take place during the wedding reception run in a smooth and orderly fashion and most importantly, on time!
Tips to finding a good MC
- Personality - Nobody likes listening to a dull, boring and spiritless speaker. Hire someone who has been in front of the pulpit before and displays a bit of charisma.
- Experience - Weddings are not documented, so you will need an experienced person that will know the right things to say at the right time.
- Someone that can improvise and roll with punches as anything can happen!

The impact of a master of ceremony cannot be underestimated at any function or by an events coordinator. The effectiveness of the MC determines the mood, the fluidity and the professionalism of a function.
Tips on how to obtain a good MC
- Referral or word of mouth - Most friends will always be honest enough to tell you about the last function they attended and how good or bad the MC was.
- Second of all you can visit websites. You can sometimes tell how good the MC is via his or her website, the composition and the photo and video galleries on the webpage. You may also find details of MCs on the websites of event planners as they usually only keep links of MCs that are tested and are on top of their game.
- Third of all be socially interactive, attend functions or shows, read entertainment magazines, watch TV and above all pray that an anointed MC comes your way. Remember that as it is in every field, so it is with choosing the MC. We have too many people who think that they can do something but only a few are original, and when you have spent so much money preparing for your big day, you need the best in the business to coordinate all the aspects of the day.
Advice from real brides
Choosing your MC
Though I do like professional MCs as they are entertaining, I find it a little weird for someone to be an MC for people they don't really know. I wanted someone close to me to handle the proceedings. I was fortunate that someone close to us was a professional. I think if you are going to get a professional that doesn't know you, try to meet them prior to the wedding day. It saves from embarrassing moments like if they can't pronounce your name.
